{"id":98,"date":"2019-09-29T11:42:35","date_gmt":"2019-09-29T10:42:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gotenerife.net\/en\/?post_type=job_listing&#038;p=98"},"modified":"2022-03-20T20:45:21","modified_gmt":"2022-03-20T20:45:21","slug":"san-miguel-castle","status":"publish","type":"job_listing","link":"https:\/\/gotenerife.net\/en\/explore\/san-miguel-castle\/","title":{"rendered":"Castle of San Miguel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <strong>Castle of San Miguel<\/strong> (Castillo de San Miguel) dates from the 16th Century and is in <a href=\"https:\/\/gotenerife.net\/en\/explore\/villa-de-garachico\/\">Garachico<\/a>, in the <a href=\"https:\/\/gotenerife.net\/en\/north-tenerife\/\">north of Tenerife<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It was built on the orders of King Phillip II of Spain to protect Garachico from pirate attacks, given that the town was hugely important for trade and its port was key for the island.<\/p><div id=\"goten-2762208736\" class=\"goten-content_2 goten-entity-placement\"><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-0088719563045673\" crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script><ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display:block;\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-0088719563045673\" \ndata-ad-slot=\"\" \ndata-ad-format=\"auto\"><\/ins>\n<script> \n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); \n<\/script>\n<\/div>\n<p>After a volcanic eruption in the early 18th Century which destroyed part of the town, Garachico lost its relevance and the fort saw its defensive function reduced. But the town was able to recover from this volcanic eruption which had buried it, to the point where it regained its previous splendour. Since the late 20th Century, the <em>Castle of San Miguel<\/em> has been considered a <strong>Site of Cultural Interest<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>It is situated on the El Calet\u00f3n seafront, surrounded by lovely gardens and the murmurs of the Atlantic Ocean.<\/p>\n<h2>Architecture<\/h2>\n<p>On an architectural level, the castle is built in a Renaissance style, with a square layout and large stone walls.
