Today, it is home to the <strong>most popular market<\/strong> in <a href=\"https:\/\/gotenerife.net\/en\/explore\/santa-cruz\/\">Santa Cruz de Tenerife<\/a>. There are plenty of stalls, mainly fresh food and artisan products, which give life and colour to the building.<\/p>\n<p>It was built on the orders of the then General Captain of the Canary Islands to try to give the city a new image. The interior of the market is composed of stalls spread across three large patios. Its main entrance consists of an enormous arch, which leads you into the vast central patio, from which you can see the Moorish Clock Tower that presides over the area.<\/p><div id=\"goten-2456919366\" class=\"goten-content_2 goten-entity-placement\"><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-0088719563045673\" crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script><ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display:block;\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-0088719563045673\" \ndata-ad-slot=\"\" \ndata-ad-format=\"auto\"><\/ins>\n<script> \n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); \n<\/script>\n<\/div>\n<p>Presiding over the main entrance outside the market, you can find a unique statue known as the <em>Lechera<\/em> (The Milkmaid).
