{"id":61,"date":"2019-12-01T21:05:28","date_gmt":"2019-12-01T21:05:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gotenerife.net\/en\/?post_type=job_listing&#038;p=61"},"modified":"2023-02-05T12:07:08","modified_gmt":"2023-02-05T12:07:08","slug":"vilaflor","status":"publish","type":"job_listing","link":"https:\/\/gotenerife.net\/en\/explore\/vilaflor\/","title":{"rendered":"Vilaflor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Vilaflor<\/strong> sits in a mountainous area in the shadow of <a href=\"https:\/\/gotenerife.net\/en\/explore\/teide\/\">Mount Teide<\/a>, between large swathes of Canarian pine trees and over 1400 metres above sea level, making it the highest urban area in the archipelago.<\/p>\n<p>Vilaflor\u2019s history and its old town date back to the early 16th Century, when the Catalan merchant Pedro Soler and his wife, Juana de Padilla, declared its foundation in 1525. Over time, Vilaflor had become the civil and religious hub for many in the <a href=\"https:\/\/gotenerife.net\/en\/south-tenerife\/\">south of Tenerife<\/a>.<\/p><div id=\"goten-2212552927\" class=\"goten-content_2 goten-entity-placement\"><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-0088719563045673\" crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script><ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display:block;\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-0088719563045673\" \ndata-ad-slot=\"\" \ndata-ad-format=\"auto\"><\/ins>\n<script> \n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); \n<\/script>\n<\/div>\n<p>Today, Vilaflor is a town with small traditional houses and cobbled streets, a rural atmosphere and a tranquil environment. Some of the best spots in the town are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Santuario del Hermano Pedro<\/strong> (<em>Sanctuary of Saint Brother Peter<\/em>). Church dedicated to Saint Peter of Saint Joseph Betancur, a Saint and Catholic missionary born in Vilaflor.<\/li>\n<li><strong>House of Los Marqueses Soler<\/strong>. One of the best examples of traditional Canarian architecture in southern Tenerife. The home of the Soler family, the founders of Vilaflor. The home dates from the 17th Century.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Church of San Pedro Ap\u00f3stol<\/strong>. Built on the site of a former church built a few years after the Spanish conquest and foundation of Vilaflor. It has since been expanded to its current appearance. In 1626, the Canarian saint Pedro de San Jos\u00e9 de Betancur was baptised here.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Vilaflor Water Mill<\/strong>. Construction began in 1644 and it maintains most of its structure today, meaning that you can admire its arches and the bucket to allow you to see how the water travelled. It is also possible to see where the grain was toasted and the structure that was used to mill it. It was in operation until 1915, and although its main function was to mill grain, it was also used for irrigation.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Bethlemite Convent<\/strong>. Bethlemite Order Convent, originally from Vilaflor and founded by Saint Peter of Saint Joseph Betancur. The works began in the 18th Century; however, it was not finished until the late 20th Century.<\/li>\n<li><em><strong>Lavaderos del Chorrillo<\/strong><\/em>. In this place known as El Chorrillo, the water supply was produced, which was then used by farmers for their homes and their animals.
