Around this centre, buildings have appeared and a city has developed. Eventually becoming one of the economic and religious seats of power in <a href=\"https:\/\/gotenerife.net\/en\/\">Tenerife<\/a>.<\/p><div id=\"goten-382654614\" class=\"goten-content_2 goten-entity-placement\"><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-0088719563045673\" crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script><ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display:block;\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-0088719563045673\" \ndata-ad-slot=\"\" \ndata-ad-format=\"auto\"><\/ins>\n<script> \n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); \n<\/script>\n<\/div>\n<p>In the shadow of <strong>Mount Teide, <\/strong>and resting in a valley, the <strong>Villa de La Orotava <\/strong>is the ideal destination to surround yourself with the island&#8217;s culture, discover its history by exploring the narrow streets, and taste the incredible gastronomy in one of the many restaurants.<\/p>\n<h2>The more relevant corners of La Orotava<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>La Orotava City Hall<\/strong> (<em>Casa Consistorial de La Orotava<\/em>). Built in the mid XIX century on a former convent of the order of Saint Claire.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/gotenerife.net\/en\/explore\/casa-de-los-balcones\/\">Casa de los Balcones<\/a>. <\/strong>Standing since the XVII century, its one of the most popular spaces in the <strong>Villa, <\/strong>now a museum.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Lercero House<\/strong> (<em>Casa Lercaro<\/em>). Space with wide patios and gardens from the XVII century.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Mesa House <\/strong>(<em>Casa Mesa<\/em>). Built in the XVI century by the Castilian conquerer and nobleman Diego de Mesa, it stands out for its Plateresque fa\u00e7ade.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Hijuela del Bot\u00e1nico<\/strong>. Gardens of almost 4000m2, opened in 1788 with the sponsorship of the XI marquis of Villanueva del Prado, Alonso de Nava and Grim\u00f3n. It has been declared a historical garden.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Church of the Conception \u2022 Sacred Museum<\/strong> (<em>Iglesia de la Concepci\u00f3n . Museo Sacro<\/em>). The Villa has been built up around this temple, and it possesses an impressive collection of sacred art.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Church of Saint John the Baptist<\/strong> (<em>Iglesia de San Juan Bautista<\/em>). Small catholic temple with just one nave and in Portuguese style. Built around the beginning of the XVIII century.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Santo Domingo Church<\/strong> (<em>Iglesia de Santo Domingo<\/em>). Built around the XVII century around an old hermitage, thanks to the Mesa family. Its tower is one of the most iconic aspects of the Villa.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Jardines del Marquesado de la Quinta Roja<\/strong>. Gardens of aristocratic origin, and the work of the French artist, Adolph Coquet.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Church and Former Convent of Saint Agustin <\/strong>(<em>Iglesia y Ex Convento de San Agust\u00edn<\/em>). A church promoted by the Agustin order and opened at the end of the XVII century.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Liceo de Taoro. <\/strong>Building reminiscent of a palace, from the XX century and surrounded by the Victoria Gardens.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Artesian<\/strong><strong> Museum<\/strong> <strong>(MAIT). <\/strong>Contains a huge amount of examples of Iberoamerican craftwork, its located in the former Convent of San Benito de Abad.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Museo de las Alfombras<\/strong>. Next to the House of Balconies, this building brings together the history and the secrets behind the Corpus Christi festivities.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Plaza de la Constituci\u00f3n<\/strong>.
