{"id":476,"date":"2020-10-24T22:37:24","date_gmt":"2020-10-24T21:37:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gotenerife.net\/en\/?post_type=job_listing&#038;p=476"},"modified":"2021-09-19T15:32:38","modified_gmt":"2021-09-19T14:32:38","slug":"military-history-museum","status":"publish","type":"job_listing","link":"https:\/\/gotenerife.net\/en\/explore\/military-history-museum\/","title":{"rendered":"Canary Islands Military History Museum"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Canary Islands Military History Museum<\/strong> is situated by <strong>Fort of Almeyda<\/strong>, right in the centre of the city Santa Cruz de Tenerife.<\/p>\n<h2>Fort of Almeyda<\/h2>\n<p>The famous battle of Santa Cruz de Tenerife took place in 1797, when rear admiral Horatio Nelson launched an attack against Tenerife with the intention of conquering the island for the British Crown. The attack was held off by local troops, but left the city of Santa Cruz unguarded.<\/p><div id=\"goten-934690112\" class=\"goten-content_2 goten-entity-placement\"><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-0088719563045673\" crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script><ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display:block;\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-0088719563045673\" \ndata-ad-slot=\"\" \ndata-ad-format=\"auto\"><\/ins>\n<script> \n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); \n<\/script>\n<\/div>\n<p>It was due to this attack that it was decided to build a defensive fort that would hold off attacks to the capital. This fort eventually became the <strong>Fort of Almeyda<\/strong>. Its construction lasted longer than anticipated and didn\u2019t finish until 1884, by which point technological advances meant that the fort no longer had much of a military advantage.<\/p>\n<p>In 1998, it was decided that parts of the fort would be home to a museum, which is now the Museum of Military History.<\/p>\n<h2>Military History Museum<\/h2>\n<p>The Canary Islands Military History Museum occupies an area of over 900m<sup>2<\/sup> and is one of the best exhibits of military history in the archipelago.
